In the small village Santa Brigida, in the North of the island, is the first market we visit. This weekly market is famous for the typical Canary handcrafts and the fruits and vegetables of this region.
The second market is located in the village La Vega de San Mateo. This traditional market offers several different products deriving from the cattle and sheep, such as the Canary cheese, a delicatessen with protected designation of origin.
The last weekly market is the one located in the beautiful village of Teror. This charming villages has much to offer and it is recommend to visit the old town and the basilica after having visited the market which offers a wide array of meat based products.

The best thing about highly experienced tour guides is what they can do for you when problems happen. Due to a stormy night which was the worst in decades, we were advised that at least one of the markets would be closed, so we were allowed to get a refund, or else go along for an adventure. All 24 people on the tour chose 'adventure'! The market at Santa Brigida was a lovely place to shop for fruit, veg, breads and island delights. And then... rainstorm, downed trees, closed markets... but the delightful Donnie kept us entertained in English, German and Dutch with a running narrative of the insider's guide to living on the island. We saw modern cave dwellings, small towns nestled in the gorgeous hillsides, and at the end, voted as a group to swing by the largest shopping mall on the island, too. Great drivers, energetic and helpful guide radio broadcast to all three vans kept us connected to the guide, and impressive flexibility on a crazy day, keeping spirits up. Another lovely surprise was that the roads of Gran Canaria are all well-paved and smooth, thanks to tourism tax dollars.
Loved my driver Mehar, he was very friendly and personable! A great way to see some island scenery and the products of the island. I didnt care for the constant narration in 3 languages over the radio, it takes away from the enjoyment of the scenary. I would prefer each driver do one language.
